Italy calls on EU to address boat migration

Rome calls for action as hundreds of asylum seekers continue to drown every year while making their way to Europe. Italy is calling on the European Union to do more to stop thousands of asylum seekers from making the journey from North Africa. Survivors leave the ship Grecale upon its arrival at Catania’s port, reportedly carrying the bodies of 17 migrants who died in the sinking of another ship in waters between Libya and Italy, in Catania, Italy, 13 May 2014. Italy has been patrolling the Mediterranean for months, in an attempt to prevent more migrant deaths.
