US presidential candidate to visit Vatican on Friday
This Friday, April 15, United States senator and Democratic party presidential nominee Bernie Sanders will speak at the conference Centesimus Annus in Rome, concerning environmental and social issues. The conference was organized by the Pontifical Academy of Sciences of the Vatican.
His speech: "The Urgency of a Moral Economy: Reflections on the 25th Anniversary of Centesimus Annus" is scheduled in the afternoon of Friday, April 15.
The trip generated controversy over the press whether Sanders received or not an invitation from the Vatican. Rumors of a possible meeting with Pope Francis have been reported in the past few days even if the news has not been confirmed by the Holy See press office.
Sanders may release declarations to the press while in Rome.
